Subject-Verb Agreement Rule 15
A singular verb is used when the subject is a title of a book, play, story, or musical composition.
Examples:
A. Franny and Zooey was written by I.D. Salinger.
B. Trees is a simple, charming poem.
C. The Merry Wives of Windsor is a comedy.
