Subject-Verb Agreement Rule 1
The verb agrees with its subject in person and number
Examples:
A. He wants to read every night.
B. The children shout while they play.
PS (plural subject) ----> PV (plural verb) or SS (singular subject) ----> SV (singular verb)
Note: To form the singular form of the verb you have to add -s eg. want(base form)+ s = wants (sv) however, this rule of forming the singular form of the verb is not applicable to all of the verbs; To form the plural form of the verb you only need to take its base form such that want being the base form is used to agree with the plural subject.
